Wiimote Whiteboard Setup

After reading Johnny Lee's project blog regarding applications of the wiimote for tracking IR input, I had to try for myself.

It took a little messing around to get my Dell D620 to recognize the wiimote, but i attribute that solely to the Dell being a POS. I used BlueSoleil as the bluetooth stack rather than the stock dell crap. Once connected, Johnny Lee's wii whiteboard application took care of the calibration.

Note that the wiimote on the dresser has full view of the LCD monitor

IR Pen:

I put together an IR pen using an old highlighter, and $10 worth of stuff from RadioShack. I found a parts list somewhere on the web, most useful for checking RadioShack stock before I rode my bike over there.

Parts:

  1. (1) 1.5V Infared LED {276-143}
  2. (1) momentary switch {275-1571}
  3. (1) battery holder {270-405A}
  4. (1) 1.5V size 'N' battery {23-023}
  5. (1) remembering how to solder
